Hi ,
Just before we fully launch
into todays’ newsletter I would just like to give a brief overview of my background and why you can have complete confidence in my business model and my encounter with a princess at the palace, but more on that later.
However I won’t bore you to death as a
lot of this information is found on our website and I know the vast majority reading this email today would have seen me present either at the business start-up show in London or at one on our workshop presentations and are keen to get into the meat of this newsletter.
Well, I have worked in the recruitment industry for over 40 years.
During my his time in recruitment I have worked at Director and Senior Management level for companies such as Reed Employment, Blue Arrow and Crown Personnel to name a few.
However, at the
time I was winning multimillion pound contracts for these companies.
But, believe it or not, they were never satisfied.
In fact, most recruitment agencies pay you a basic salary and then commission on money generated above a set target.
The crazy thing was as
soon as you bring a contract which in theory should result in you earning a decent commission, they would increase the threshold.
Effectively, ensuring that you commission was short lived.
The vast majority of jobs these days require you to trade your time for money.
So in exchange for working a set number of hours each
month, you are receiving a set number of shekels, monetary income.
However, I have learned one very valuable thing over the years. You can always get more money, but you can never get your time back.
To me, time is the most valuable commodity that is
out there.
If you’re working in a place where you’re forced to trade your time for dimes so to speak, you’re never going to be financially secure.
You only have 24 hours in a day and after some point, you can’t put in any more hours, limiting how much you can potentially earn.
And that is why you need to be in business for yourself, working smarter and not harder.
So that you can use your precious time doing the things you want to do and not spending half your life paying for someone else to have the freedom you crave.
I have written a number of books relating to various aspects of the recruitment industry.
Such as ‘How to start a career in recruitment’ and ‘How to find your perfect job in 30 days or
less’ plus articles and reports for the industry.
I’ve previously been a panel expert for the 'Start Your Business' magazine where I provide answers to questions and give advice to budding entrepreneurs
regarding issues on recruitment and starting a business.
Over the past five years I have been a Key Note Speaker at the Business Start Up Show, where I have presented to over 300 people the benefits of
starting a home based recruitment agency.
I am a fellow member of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, the highest membership for the organisation which is effectively the governing body for the recruitment industry here in the UK.
This allows me to keep you informed of developments in legislation and case law that affect recruitment businesses, ensuring that you are always completely up to date and compliant.
Over my years in recruitment, I have secured a number of multimillion pound and prestigious contracts.
In fact, one of the most notable contracts that was secured using one of these contract templates was to supply temporary staff to the Royal Household.
I would just like to relate a very brief personal experience if I may which highlights how fascinatingly interesting this business can be.
On one occasion, the recruitment branch I was managing won a contract to supply staff to St James Palace, no less.
This was to open up letters of condolences
when Princess Diana was sadly killed in a car crash back in 1997.
What was quite interesting about this contract is that mail was first delivered to the court post office at Buckingham Palace.
Now bearing in mind that the Queen reportedly receives around 400 letters per day
with the added letters and cards of condolences there were literally 1000s of letters and cards arriving daily.
Now Buckingham palace does not use the traditional Royal Mail postal vans.
When the post arrive they have horse drawn carriages take the post from
Buckingham palace to Kensington and St James Palace.
Which as you can imagine because of the share volume of sacks of post being delivered in a relatively small carriage it took an age for the temps to sort through all the letters and cards that were
arriving.
So much so that in the end they had to draft in cadets from the local army barracks to help get on top of things.
One Friday, I had to get the timesheets signed off for all the temps that were working at St James Palace so that they could be paid.
But there was no one available.
So in my infinite wisdom I thought I would just go and search around inside the palace to find someone to sign off the timesheets.
And it had nothing to do with wanting to have a little nose around to see how the other half live.
Now bearing in mind St James palace is not open to
the public for tours unless you have been invited in as a guess as it is still occupied by members of the royal family…
…going in search of someone to get a signature for the timesheets wasn’t a very good idea.
After a few minutes of casually strolling around I heard a voice from behind me say can I help you.
So I spun round, and there was a very elegant lady standing
there with a quizzical look on her face.
And you know sometimes when you recognise a face but you can’t quite remember where you have seen that person before or even their name.
So I said to her I know you, where do I know you from.
One of the security
guards later told me that it was the Princess Michael of Kent, or to give her correct title HRH the Princess Michael of Kent.
Talk about me being dumb and dumber for not recognising her, and it gets worse.
What are you doing in here?
Oh I do
apologise but I am from the recruitment agency and we have a team of temps working opening up the letters and cards of condolences.
Oh, Ok, that’s fine.
So I thought phew she’s not going send for the palace guards and get me turf out or worse still arrested.
She then asked how’s it all going?
Now It was on the tip of my tongue to say that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
But under the circumstances that would definitely, definitely not have been a good response.
So trying to think quickly for an alternative answer I said we are coming to the end of the lollipop.
Lollipop, lollipop she replied, why are they eating lollipops, they’re going to ruin the
cards.
So to my shame, I replied I am not too sure why but I better go and sort them out.
Not one of my better days. But certainly memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Sorry I digress.
Last but not least, as previously stated, with this experience and expertise, to date, my
company has helped hundreds of ordinary people, from all walks of life.
