Ever wondered how your bananas are
ripened? Turns out this doesn’t always happen on the tree but, should you be so interested, it could be a whole new career path.
Latest research from job board CV-Library has
uncovered some weird and wonderful job roles, after asking 700 recruiters to share the most bizarre roles they have recruited for in the last year.
Trainee banana ripener was
just one such job. With a salary of £20k/year the successful recruit would be working in a Kent ‘ripening room’ to ensure the fruit was of appropriate quality for customers.
Other roles
included:
• Warrington-based outgoing and self motivated cricket mascot to dress as Lizzie the Lizard for £7 an hour. Fly catching skills not necessary.
• Watford-based joyous individual to roam grottos near and far as a strolling elf, inviting
children to see Santa and generally spreading Christmas cheer: £6.50 an hour.
• Responsible and dedicated empty office sitter in London, £8 an hour with tea and coffee provided.
• Skilled and passionate trumpeter with own instrument and
ability to sight-read and play solo on demand. Based in Preston, £10 an hour.
• Welwyn Garden City-based experienced erection specialist, responsible for erecting fences at £14k a year.
• Flexible Farnham-based roadkill cleaner with a positive
attitude, and able to work in all weather conditions: £7 each animal.
• Bristol-based enthusiastic sandwich artist, able to create unique sandwiches to customer demand. £6.50-7 an hour. No experience necessary.
• Anaheim, California-based passionate and dedicated Disney site manager to run Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, £75k a year. Must be able to create magical experiences.
• York-based bull head catcher to support slaughtermen at £230 per week. Must be physically fit to assist with moving heavy loads and have a strong stomach. Experience
preferable.
Some years ago I was working for a recruitment agency called Blue Arrow, in Waltham Cross and a client had contacted us asking for a temp to dress up as ‘friendly’ monster to give out badges to promote a new toy in a local Argos store over the Christmas period.
The rate of pay was £6.00. So we persuaded a temp to do this as all he would have to do was stand in the corner of the store and give out badges, easy money we told him.
How wrong we were!
When the client drop off this costume, the head with its horns could just about fit through the door and weighed a ton with a face that resembled a bulldog chewing a wasp.
To cut a long story short the temp dutifully went along to the store stood in the corner and waited for kids to come over, and he waited and waited and waited but no one approach him.
It then dawned on him that the kids thought he was just a large model of the toy. So he decided to approach these young children. Well pandemonium broke loose as these young children were scared out of their wits and ran off screaming to their parents.
To make matters worse, this temp decided to screw off the huge monster’s head he was wearing well that was it. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of those kids are still traumatised to this day.
