A while
back, I had one of my clients, who started their recruitment agency at the end of last year, reach out to me concerned about how, when they started their agency they were able to make money very quickly; however, they were now struggling to build on that success…
When asked what were their main concerns? His response was…
Clients and candidates are not getting back to
him...
Market conditions are not as good as they used to be…
Two candidates had turned down offers, for no good reason…
And the setbacks have left him feeling dejected…
My reply was, unfortunately, it's all part of the game!
There's a well-known saying that I think is apt for all entrepreneurs: "A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor."
The truth of the matter is, as you are dealing with people, they will let you down, as there's nowt so queer as folk!
I went on to explain that the fact that he had two offers turned
down meant that he was obviously picking up vacancies and getting interviews.
And just because candidates had not accepted the offers did not mean that it was all doom and gloom, and maybe he would need to adjust his thinking.
"If you become discouraged in times of difficulties, your strength will be weak."
Is this business plain sailing? Absolutely not!
In fact, the only constant about this business, like sailing, is that no two days are the same. Some days are favourable, others not, but that's no excuse to become discouraged.
In conclusion, the object lesson here is, never let the odd setback take the wind out of your sails.
It's always good to remember that the most challenging times brings the most empowering lessons.
