When the office cleaner, who runs his own cleaning company – Chris, popped in.
"You're
working late, Joe," he said, "sure, but I'm nearly finished. How's business, I responded?"
"Oh, not so good, Joe. There are a couple of new cleaning companies out there undercutting me, and my customers are leaving me in their droves and going with them," he said.
"Sorry to hear that", I responded…
To be honest, I felt a bit of a hypocrite because that is exactly what my recruitment agency startup programme is all about…
I continued, "Is there nothing you can do?"
"No, not a thing"…
"Joe, I'm now lucky if I earn £300.00 a week, and that's working six days a week!"
"Really!" I said, I can't believe all the hours you're working, and for what, a measly £300.00."
"I know, Joe, but what else am I supposed to do?
There are no jobs about for my limited skills and education, so I'll just have to stick with it and hope things pick up".
After Chris had left, I thought about his situation.
I didn't realise how tough he had it, especially as on Monday, I had just completed a Zoom interview with one of my new start-ups, who had made a placement for £5,000...
And Sarah was working her recruitment agency business for just two evenings per week…
The problem Chris has, is that he has limiting beliefs, that holds him back…
Although he was familiar with what my company does, I'm sure if I told him how much some of my new start-ups were earning, he'd probably not believe me – treble his monthly income from working two evenings per
