As you may or may not be aware, I run weekly recruitment start-up workshops that provide people with an overview of how to set up and run their own home-based recruitment agency. 

At the end of the workshop, I meet with attendees to address any questions they may have. 

Recently, I spoke to someone who said she has the money to invest, but she is in two minds whether or not to invest in a business or to invest in an MBA.

To me, the answer was a no-brainer: it has to be to start a business.

I can see the eyes rolling…

"Of course, you would say that!"

"How can starting a home-based recruitment agency thing be better than an all-singing, all-dancing bells and whistles MBA degree?"

Simple.

Allow me to explain…

Each MBA lecture is packed with information that doesn't necessarily prepare you for the world of work, and some study programmes' course material is outdated. 

Some years ago, I had a client whose parents had paid £36,000 on a computing course that took him three years to complete.

After completing the course, he began applying for jobs. However, his qualification, which was based on using Pentium 1, was outdated, as the whole industry had already moved on to Pentium 3 microprocessors.

Finally, it's graduation day…

YAY!

First, let's take a look at Mr MBA Grad superstar…

He has a piece of paper.

It basically states he holds "management potential".

Potential.

Nothing more.

Err …and then there's also the fact that Mr MBA Grad is six figures in the hole from tuition expenses.

What a great way to be let out into the "real world of work".

Six figures down.

No job.

But hey, look at the bright side, Mr MBA Grad has "management potential".

Hmm…

In contrast…

A client of our Rec Revolution training programme will leave with a home-based recruitment agency that's actually earning money.

As in not £120K in the red.

So there you have it.

You can see why I say investing time and energy in starting your very own home-based recruitment agency is waaaaaay better than an MBA degree.

You'll graduate with less debt.

You'll ALREADY have a business that is earning you money.

Not just "management potential".

You never know…

Perhaps you could hire an MBA to work for you.
