Hi
,
The government's recent immigration reforms have sent shockwaves through the care sector.
On Monday, it was announced that overseas recruitment for care workers will end - news that many care providers are calling devastating.
Care homes and providers across the UK have relied heavily on international recruitment as a "lifeline" in the face of critical staffing shortages.
Even with overseas hires, the social care sector in England reported a staggering 131,000 vacancies last year alone.
Professor Martin Green, Chief Executive of Care England, summed up the sector's growing frustration:
"The sector has been propping itself up with dwindling resources, rising costs, and mounting vacancies. Taking international recruitment away now—without warning, without funding, and without alternatives—is not just short-sighted. It's cruel."
Despite these warnings, the government remains firm, insisting the changes are part of its plan to "significantly reduce immigration" and create a "controlled, selective, and fair" migration system.
But here's where recruitment agencies come in—and why all the care recruitment agencies are "rubbing their hands in
glee."
The government has stated that care providers can still:
- Extend visas for existing overseas staff already in the UK...
- Recruit migrants already present in the UK who are still job hunting...
- Most importantly, it will focus on hiring and training
UK-based workers...
But let's be honest: if hiring staff was that easy, care homes would already be doing it.
Advertising, recruiting, and vetting care workers is time-consuming, especially when these care homes have an urgent requirement, which is often the case.
That's why care homes increasingly rely on recruitment agencies with a pool of pre-vetted, ready-to-go workers available at short notice.
These care homes are desperate to save money, and with your home-based recruitment agency, you will be able to undercut even well-established
high-street recruitment agencies.
There has never been a better time than now to have your share of recruitment's £35 billion industry, and here's how to get started...
